The Idaho Botanical Garden in Boise, Idaho . . .

We had the blessing of being able to attend our good friends' son's wedding in Boise, Idaho. The reception was held at a beautiful botanical garden, located just outside the walls of what used to be a penitentiary (interesting place to have a garden). The penitentiary is surrounded by beautiful (is that okay to use to describe a prison?) rock walls. It was built in 1870.  The garden was so lovely and I was able to take lots of photos and thought you might enjoy a little tour. It was only 95 degrees that day.

The turret still has the sign "WARNING Guard Dog on Duty"

Thanks for visiting today. I hope you enjoyed the garden.

  1. That was a lovely tour and it certainly doesn't look like a prison now, except for the watch tower turret. Have a good weekend, Jackie in UK.

  2. Oh, thank-you for the lovely, lovely tour. Isn't it strange to think that something so beautiful can be made of something quite awful? It reminds me a little bit of the Butchart Gardens on Vancouver Island. They are absolutely breath-taking gardens and were built on what used to be a really ugly eyesore of a open-pit quarry. Amazing how things can be transformed given enough time and talent! :)
